TURTLES LOVE LEGO TOO
Recently we purchsed a couple of short necked murray river turtles.
Very cute and very friendly, originally they were the size of an Australian 20 cent piece.. Becuase they were soo small they were still not very strong swimmers. This was a concern for us as we had read that turtles need a resting spot were they can get there little head above the water for air.
Most turtle tanks have a small glass ledge were the turtles can climb onto so they can get air, But our fish tank didnt.
This is were our love for LEGO overflowed to our turtles.
We pondered, "what can we use for a ledge" and "how can we give our turtles a resting spot".
So out came the LEGO..*grins*
We built up some bricks designing a structure strong enough to hold a resting turtle. We placed a 16x16 baseplate at the bottom to give the structure some balance and support by putting the gravel over it, so our adventurous turtles couldnt knock the structure on top of themselves.
Then we got adventurous and designed another with a ramp making it easier for the little turtles to get to the top, because at this stage they were still not the best swimmers.
They now have two small little houses one with a ramp they also have lego pine trees and even a lego sign 'oh and don't forget the treasure chest '.
Now our turtles are happy! they can get to the top easily and also have good little hiding areas for sleeping. we even added a large boat to the bottom of the tank.
